Programs
After School
This hands-on, multi-sensory program is specially designed for K-1 students who are having reading difficulties.
Students meet in small groups twice a week for 1-hour sessions over a 12-week period. A trained reading professional helps students learn, review, and practice critical skills and strategies they need to become beginning readers.
Students are identified by their teachers and then recruited for a 10-week session of Star Readers Club.
How is the Star Readers Program different? Star Readers instructors are trained to use Orton-Gillingham, multi-sensory teaching techniques to enhance and reinforce learning. These research-based techniques have a proven track record for helping students with reading difficulties learn more effectively.
Star Readers lessons reinforce what students are learning in the classroom that week. For example, if students are learning how to blend letter sounds into words, they will practice it using multisensory techniques during Star Readers. If the phonics lesson that week is on the sound of “ch”, in Star Readers they might use manipulatives to spell words with “ch” and then read connected text.
Summer Program
A free, 2-week small group reading instruction program for new 1st Grade students before school starts in August. Instruction will center on basic Kindergarten reading skills, with primary focus on phonics, high frequency words, reading strategies and beginning reading.
Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory teaching techniques will be used to reinforce learning. Small groups of five students each per instructor (5:1) will be used to enhance learning.
